YWCA Boston building (Clarendon Street)

The YWCA building on Clarendon Street features a tall brick facade with heavy limestone trim and arched windows. Built in nineteen twenty-nine, it replaced an earlier structure to provide safe, affordable housing for young women moving to Boston for work. Within these walls, hundreds of women found their first independent living space. When the doors opened, the lobby served as a social hub where residents balanced their professional lives with communal events, creating a dense, bustling network of women navigating the city together.
