Ard Godfrey House

The Ard Godfrey House features white wood siding and a prominent green roof, sitting alone on the edge of the Mississippi River. Built in eighteen forty-nine, it stands as the oldest wood-frame house in Minneapolis. Ard Godfrey arrived to build the first dam and sawmill at Saint Anthony Falls, and he constructed this home for his wife, Harriet, so she would have a proper place to live in the frontier. Harriet eventually turned the front parlor into the city's first post office.
