The limestone exterior of Our Lady of Lourdes glows in a pale, sandy hue that stands out against the brick buildings of the neighborhood. This is the oldest church building in Minneapolis still on its original site. Built in eighteen fifty-seven, it first served a congregation of French Canadians who worked in the nearby sawmills. They eventually moved, and the building passed to the Catholic parish that occupies it today. The original bell still hangs in the tower, cast in bronze nearly two centuries ago.
