The Kitchen at Atomic occupies a brick building with a jagged, painted mural that stands out against the sleek glass of the newer downtown towers. This space served as the city's first freestanding bar, Atomic Liquors, which opened its doors in nineteen fifty-two. Locals gathered on the roof during those early years to watch the mushroom clouds from nuclear tests performed in the desert nearby. Today, the bar maintains that gritty history while the kitchen serves food from behind the original bar top.
