McKenna Triangle

McKenna Triangle is named in honor of Major James A. McKenna, a Long Island City native who served in the First World War. After fighting in the Mexican border conflict and leading his battalion through a gas raid in France, he died in July nineteen eighteen when he was struck by stray shrapnel. His sacrifice was so widely felt in the community that the city renamed this plot of land to memorialize him only a year after the war ended.
