40,000 Years mural

The Forty Thousand Years mural stretches across the brick side of the Redfern Community Centre, dominated by a vibrant, swirling depiction of a creator spirit in ochre, yellow, and blue. Painted in nineteen eighty-three by Carole Ruff and a group of local teenagers, the image asserts an unbroken connection to the Gadigal land beneath the pavement. One of the artists, Danny Eastwood, famously integrated a series of black handprints into the design to represent the ancestors who walked here long before.
