The Redfern Community Centre features a striking, sweeping roofline made of zinc that curves upward toward the sky. It sits on the former site of the Redfern Railway Workshops, replacing a derelict industrial space with a vibrant hub for the local Indigenous community. Architect Tony Caro designed the building to host everything from funerals and memorials to art exhibitions and basketball games. In two thousand four, the centre opened its doors, providing a permanent, public gathering place for the Wiradjuri and Gadigal people.
