Darling Square is defined by a massive, twisting timber structure known as the Exchange building, which wraps around its six levels like a knotted wooden ribbon. This site once served as the home for the Sydney Entertainment Centre, a cavernous concrete arena that hosted concerts and sports events for three decades until its demolition in twenty fifteen. Developers cleared the arena to create this dense pedestrian precinct, which now houses apartments and rows of restaurants underneath that spiraling cedar facade.
