It serves as the primary memorial for Queenslanders who served in conflicts since the Boer War. In nineteen thirty, the Governor of Queensland unveiled the Shrine of Remembrance here, designed with a circular crypt to house the eternal flame. During the opening, thousands of veterans stood in silence, marking a space dedicated to individual loss rather than grand military triumphs.
