Nepalese Peace Pagoda

The Nepalese Peace Pagoda is a three-story timber structure carved from hand-cut teak. It originally stood in the middle of the nineteen eighty-eight World Expo, brought to Brisbane by the Kingdom of Nepal to showcase their craftsmanship. When the expo ended, officials planned to dismantle and ship the building back to Kathmandu. Local residents insisted the pagoda stay, eventually securing its permanence in this park. It remains the only building from that international exposition still standing on its original site.
