The Wheel of Brisbane stands sixty meters high, its white steel frame holding forty-two enclosed gondolas above the banks of the Brisbane River. It arrived in two thousand and eight to mark the twentieth anniversary of World Expo eighty-eight, which transformed this former industrial site into a cultural hub. Engineers transported the entire structure piece by piece from its previous home in Hong Kong. It remains a temporary installation, though it has occupied this spot on the South Bank parklands for nearly two decades.
