Streets Beach is a man-made swimming lagoon, easily identified by the vast stretch of white sand that sits against the South Brisbane skyline. It arrived in nineteen eighty-six as part of the World Expo, transforming what was once a derelict industrial wharf into a freshwater oasis. Engineers haul in thousands of tons of sand annually to maintain the artificial beach, while the filtered water cycles through a complex underground system. It remains a rare example of a permanent urban coastal landscape.
