Sylvia Hotel, Restaurant and Lounge

The Sylvia Hotel wears a coat of dark ivy that scales its cream-colored brick facade. Built in nineteen twelve, it operated as a luxury apartment building before turning into a hotel during the second world war. In the nineteen fifties, it hosted the city’s first cocktail lounge. When the city tried to force the hotel to remove its signature ivy in the nineteen nineties, the residents protested to save the plants, and the greenery remains on the building to this day.
