St. Andrew's Wesley United Church

St. Andrew's Wesley United Church features a distinctive exterior of rough-hewn, silver-grey Nelson Island granite, accented by vibrant green copper roofing. Completed in nineteen thirty-three, the structure replaced a former wooden building to accommodate a rapidly growing congregation in downtown Vancouver. During the Great Depression, the church committee refused to halt construction, choosing to employ local stonemasons and laborers who desperately needed the wages. The building stands today as a rare example of Gothic Revival stonework in a city of steel.
