Orpheum

The Orpheum’s Spanish Baroque facade stands out with its intricate terra-cotta carvings and a marquee that glows against the street. Opened in nineteen twenty-seven as a vaudeville house, it was the flagship of the Orpheum circuit in Canada. When the building faced demolition in the seventies, city residents staged a massive campaign to save it. Today, it operates as a concert hall, housing the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra beneath a vast, ornate dome that was designed to mimic an open night sky.
