The Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden is defined by its uneven, hand-laid limestone walls and deep, dark green roof tiles imported from China. Built in nineteen eighty-six, it is the first full-scale garden of its type constructed outside of that country. Fifty-two master craftsmen from Suzhou spent thirteen months assembling it, relying on traditional methods that avoid screws, nails, or power tools. They interlocked the wooden joints using only gravity and precisely cut cedar beams to hold the structures together.
