Habitat Island is a crescent of land separated from the False Creek seawall by a narrow, tidal channel. Created in twenty ten for the Winter Olympics, the island functions as a dedicated wildlife sanctuary. Its shoreline uses large boulders and native plantings to mimic the natural rocky edges that existed here before industrial development. While visitors can cross the short rock causeway at low tide, the intent remains to keep human activity on the perimeter so the birds and crabs stay undisturbed.
