Southeast False Creek Neighbourhood Energy Utility

other

The Southeast False Creek Neighbourhood Energy Utility is marked by a tall, slender chimney stack rising above a building clad in jagged, dark metal panels. Built for the twenty ten Winter Olympics, the facility captures waste heat from untreated sewage flowing through a city sewer main underneath the street. This heat warms water that is pumped through a network of pipes to provide space heating and hot water for nearby residential buildings. The system reduces greenhouse gas emissions for the entire neighborhood.
