Chinese Canadian Museum

The Chinese Canadian Museum occupies the Wing Sang Building, easily identified by the narrow, red brick facade that pushes out toward the street. This is the oldest building in Chinatown, constructed in eighteen eighty-nine by Yip Sang, a merchant who arrived with almost nothing and built a shipping and import empire. He raised twenty-three children within these walls, turning the building into a home, a school, and an office. It served as the base for his vast network connecting Vancouver to distant ports.
