Vancouver Chinatown Millennium Gate

The Millennium Gate features four stone pillars and a double-tiered roof covered in green clay tiles. It marks the western entrance to Chinatown and commemorates the neighborhood's long history. Completed in two thousand and two, the structure was a gift to the city from the local Chinese community. One of the gate's architects, Joe Wai, fought for years to secure the city permits required to place it over Pender Street, ensuring it physically connected the historic district to the rest of Vancouver.
