The Commodore Ballroom features a rounded, neon-lit marquee that extends over the sidewalk on Granville Street. Built in nineteen thirty, the venue operates as a dance hall with a unique horsehair-padded floor designed to absorb shock for dancers. During the nineteen forties and fifties, the club hosted big band legends like Duke Ellington and Sammy Davis Junior. The dance floor remains suspended on rubber tires today, which gives it a distinct, springy feeling underfoot when the room fills up for a show.
