Jim Deva Plaza

The Jim Deva Plaza is marked by a series of brightly colored, oversized concrete tubes arranged in a loose, semi-circular formation. These structures create a permanent stage for the West End’s queer community. The plaza occupies a section of Bute Street that was once a narrow thoroughfare for cars but now serves as a public room for the neighborhood. Jim Deva, the owner of a local bookstore, spent decades fighting for the safety and visibility of gay people in this city.
