A-maze-ing Laughter

Fourteen bronze figures stand in Morey Park, each caught in a fit of hysterical, open-mouthed laughter. Their bodies twist and bend in exaggerated, contorted poses, some doubled over while others throw their heads back toward the sky. Artist Yue Minjun modeled these figures after his own face and form, casting them in various stages of convulsing glee. They arrived in Vancouver as a temporary exhibition for the two thousand nine Biennale but remained, permanently anchored to the grass by public demand.
