The Hotel de Felzins features an ornate Renaissance facade carved from light-colored stone, dominated by a tall, tapering brick tower that rises above the surrounding rooftops. Pierre d'Assézat, a wealthy merchant who made his fortune in the woad dye trade, commissioned the residence during the sixteenth century. He hired the architect Nicolas Bachelier to design a home reflecting his status, including a courtyard decorated with detailed classical motifs. The tower served as a private study where d'Assézat could overlook his city.
