Place du Capitole

The Place du Capitole is defined by its massive, eight-columned neoclassical facade of pink brick and white limestone. This building serves as the city hall and the center of Toulousain civic life. In the eighteenth century, the city council decided to unify the chaotic medieval structures on the site into one grand administrative palace. During the French Revolution, the building nearly burned, but it survived to house the municipal government, which has occupied this location since the twelfth century.
