Galerie Le Château d'Eau, Toulouse

The Galerie Le Château d'Eau sits inside a squat, cylindrical brick tower that once pressurized water for the neighborhood of Saint-Cyprien. Built in eighteen twenty-three, it served the city for over a century before falling into disuse. In nineteen seventy-four, photographer Jean Dieuzaide transformed the abandoned structure into a public gallery. He turned the old reservoir into a space for photography, creating one of the first dedicated exhibition centers of its kind in France. The thick, curved walls remain intact.
