Place de l'Estrapade

other

The Place de l'Estrapade takes its name from a brutal method of torture once carried out here. The strapado involved tying a person’s hands behind their back and hoisting them into the air by a rope before letting them fall abruptly. Public executions and punishments occurred on this square for years, serving as a warning to those who challenged the local authorities. It remains a quiet, cobblestoned corner today, holding onto the memory of those final, public moments of condemned prisoners.
