L'Ostal d'Occitania - La Maison de l'Occitanie

The Hôtel d'Assézat houses the Ostal d'Occitania, its facade defined by the intricate stone carvings and the tall, enclosed courtyard typical of Toulouse Renaissance mansions. In the sixteenth century, the pastel merchant Pierre d'Assézat built this home to display his immense wealth gained from the blue dye trade. Today, the building serves as a hub for the Occitan language and culture, protecting the regional identity that once flourished before the rise of standardized French. A massive clock tower overlooks the central courtyard.
