The Place de la Daurade sits right against the Garonne River, marked by its long, paved esplanade and the row of chestnut trees lining the water. This spot housed a basilica built in the fifth century, constructed on the ruins of a Roman temple dedicated to Apollo. The name comes from the gold mosaics that once covered the chapel interior. Today, students and locals claim the stone walls at sunset, turning the riverbank into a communal living room for the city.
