Promenade Henri Martin

The Promenade Henri Martin follows a long, straight line along the Garonne River, paved with wide stone paths and shaded by rows of plane trees. It serves as the primary riverside walkway for the Jacobins district, laid out in the late nineteenth century to connect the city center to the water. In nineteen hundred and five, the city installed a bronze statue of the historian Henri Martin here. During the second world war, occupying forces seized the statue to melt it down for metal.
