Square Jean Leclaire

Square Jean Leclaire is marked by a distinctive statue of a man sitting comfortably in a chair, a casting of the painter Jean-Jacques Henner. Before this patch of land became a public park in the nineteen thirties, it was the site of the artist’s home and studio. Henner spent his final years here painting moody, atmospheric portraits in the heart of the seventeenth arrondissement. The city eventually cleared the private property to create this open space, preserving the memory of his residence.
