Square Charles Hermite

The Square Charles Hermite sits between two towering, unfinished concrete blocks of social housing, its ground level marked by a dense canopy of mature trees that block the view of the nearby Périphérique ring road. Named for the nineteenth-century mathematician who taught at the Sorbonne, the park occupies a narrow strip of land created during the mid-twentieth century urban expansion. A local resident once successfully lobbied to install the playground equipment here, arguing that the neighborhood children lacked a safe outdoor space.
