Tomb of Ahmet Kaya

A simple black granite headstone marks the resting place of Ahmet Kaya in the Pere Lachaise cemetery. The site bears a modest inscription and often holds fresh flowers left by visitors from across the world. Kaya was a Kurdish musician who moved to Paris in nineteen ninety-nine to escape prosecution in Turkey. He died here just two years later. His music blended traditional folk melodies with political lyrics, and he remains a voice for many who live in exile far from home.
