Place Henri-Krasucki

This square is named after Henri Krasucki, a prominent French trade union leader who spent much of his life in this neighborhood. Born to Polish-Jewish immigrants, he became a central figure in the French Resistance during the Second World War, eventually surviving imprisonment in the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps. After the war, he returned to Paris and became the secretary-general of the General Confederation of Labor, one of the most influential labor unions in the country. He lived for many years just a few steps away from this intersection, at one hundred and seven rue des Couronnes.
