Le Consulat

The building at the corner of rue Norvins and rue des Saules wears a faded red facade with bright white trim and green shutters. It dates back to the eighteenth century, serving first as a farmhouse and later as a meeting house for the local Montmartre town council. During the nineteenth century, painters like Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet stopped here to drink and argue. They left behind a neighborhood reputation that keeps the tables full today.
