Place Émile Goudeau

Place Émile Goudeau is a small, sloping triangle of pavement shaded by chestnut trees. It takes its name from a poet who founded a local literary club in the eighteen eighties. Before the name change, it was the Place Ravignan. At the center of the square stands a simple Wallace fountain. In the building at number thirteen, a rickety wooden structure once known as the Bateau-Lavoir, Pablo Picasso lived and worked for years while struggling to sell his early canvases.
