Avenue de Wagram cuts a straight line through the seventeenth arrondissement, marked by high, cream-colored stone facades and rhythmic iron balconies. It started as a humble track named the Route de la Révolte. In eighteen fifty-four, Baron Haussmann renamed it for the Battle of Wagram, where Napoleon secured a major victory against the Austrians. This wide path provided a direct link from the Arc de Triomphe to the northern city limits, serving as a ceremonial artery for the new Paris.
