Paris Promenade

The pathway you are approaching is the Promenade Plantée, also known as the Coulée verte René-Dumont. This elevated park follows the path of a former steam railway line that opened in eighteen fifty-nine to connect Paris to its eastern suburbs. After train service ended in nineteen sixty-nine, the tracks sat abandoned for years, creating an industrial scar through the twelfth arrondissement. In nineteen ninety-three, the city transformed this derelict route into the world's first elevated urban park.
