The Place du Général-Cartoux sits as a small, triangular island where the Rue des Batignolles meets the Rue Lemercier. Its most distinct feature is a collection of mature, leafy trees that shade the iron benches during the afternoon. The square takes its name from Charles-Édouard-Marie Cartoux, a French general who served during the First World War. He spent his final years living in this neighborhood, passing away in nineteen forty-five, just after the liberation of Paris.
