The Hôtel Porgès commands the corner of avenue Montaigne and rue Jean Goujon with a facade of carved limestone that mimics the grand style of the eighteenth century. Jules Porgès, a diamond merchant who built his fortune in the mines of South Africa, commissioned the architect Ernest Sanson to complete this residence in eighteen ninety-two. The interior once housed his collection of Flemish paintings and gold-leaf furniture, designed to host the most exclusive gatherings in the city during the Belle Époque.
