While its neighbor, Gare Lille-Flandres, serves the old regional lines, this station arrived in nineteen ninety-four to anchor the high-speed Channel Tunnel connection. Architect Rem Koolhaas designed the station as a bridge between the city and the high-speed tracks, forcing the building to stretch horizontally through the city's business district. It functions as a transit artery for international travelers.
