The Lille Grand Palais is a massive, concrete structure defined by its sweeping, curved roof that resembles a giant, wave-like shell. Designed by architect Rem Koolhaas and opened in nineteen ninety-four, it serves as a multi-purpose hub for conventions, concerts, and exhibitions. Before this complex appeared, the site functioned as a freight yard for the nearby railway station. Koolhaas shaped the building to mimic the geometry of the surrounding infrastructure, creating a sharp contrast with the traditional brick architecture found elsewhere in the city.
