Mur des Canuts

The Mur des Canuts covers the side of a building with a massive, painted mural that looks like a street sloping upward into a neighborhood. It spans over thirteen thousand square feet, making it the largest trompe l'oeil wall in Europe. Artists from Cite de la Creation began painting it in nineteen eighty-seven to represent the lives of the local silk weavers. Every decade, they return to repaint the figures, aging the children into adults and adding new details to reflect the changing community.
