Fresque des Lyonnais

The Fresque des Lyonnais covers the entire side of a building, turning a plain apartment block into a crowded gallery of local celebrities. Twenty-four figures from Lyon’s history occupy the balconies painted across the facade, from Roman emperors to modern scientists. In nineteen ninety-five, a group called CitéCréation covered the wall in this trompe l'oeil mural. They even included the artist team itself, painting their own likenesses among the city’s most famous residents as they work on a scaffold.
