The Tour Rose stands out for its circular, pink-plastered stair tower rising inside the courtyard of the Maison du Crible. Built during the Renaissance, the tower provides the vertical link between the floors of this silk merchant's mansion. Henry the fourth stayed here in sixteen hundred, when he came to Lyon for his marriage to Marie de Medici. While the king slept in the grand rooms, the courtyard and its spiraling tower remained the quiet, private heart of his host's home.
