Musée des arts de la marionnette - Gadagne

The Musee des arts de la marionnette occupies the upper floors of the Hotel de Gadagne, a Renaissance palace defined by its four-story facade of warm, golden stone and the rhythmic rows of mullioned windows. This building houses a massive collection of puppets from across the globe, including the original Guignol, a character created in Lyon during the early nineteenth century. Pierre Mourguet, a silk worker turned puppeteer, fashioned the sly, witty character to entertain local laborers during long, difficult shifts in the workshops.
