Place Saint-Paul

The Place Saint-Paul centers on a small, triangular square tucked against the base of the Fourvière hill. Its defining feature is the pale, Romanesque clock tower of the Église Saint-Paul, which has watched over this corner since the twelfth century. While the neighborhood around it feels like a modern thoroughfare today, this square served as the primary entrance to the city for travelers arriving from the north for hundreds of years. Horses and heavy carts once crowded these stones, hauling goods toward the Saône.
