Rue Juiverie

Rue Juiverie features tall, Renaissance-era facades that lean inward, nearly touching at the top. During the sixteenth century, this narrow corridor served as the center of Lyon's Jewish community. Wealthy bankers like the Italian merchant Claude Gouffier built ornate houses here, complete with hidden interior courtyards and spiraling stone staircases. Gouffier once hosted King Francis the First in his private residence, an event that cemented this street as a hub for the city's intellectual and financial elite during the height of the silk trade.
