Odeon of Lyon

The Odeon of Lyon sits carved into the hillside of Fourvière with its tiered stone seating facing the sunset. Built in the second century, this smaller theater held three thousand people for poetry readings and musical performances. During the excavations of nineteen thirty-three, archaeologists uncovered a vibrant floor mosaic featuring geometric patterns and wild animals. Today, the theater maintains its original limestone shape, standing silent while the city of Lyon spreads out across the valley floor far below its ancient upper tiers.
