Passage Thiaffait

The Passage Thiaffait is a steep, covered staircase lined with iron-framed galleries that look like small, suspended workshops. Built in the middle of the nineteenth century, it served as a connector for silk workers traveling between the Croix-Rousse plateau and the workshops below. By the nineteen nineties, the passage fell into such ruin that the city considered sealing it off entirely. Instead, a renovation transformed the space into a hub for fashion designers, keeping the workers here long after the looms went silent.
